Put a Sock in It

I don’t know who deemed it a dud gift, but I’m here to set the record straight once and for all: socks are an excellent gift; in fact, socks may be the ultimate gift. Think about it, socks are useful, they come in a multitude of prints and color options, they’re sized to fit a range of different shoe sizes, and best of all, socks fit any budget! I admit that I’m a difficult person to shop for (I tend to shop impulsively, so anything I want I tend to buy for myself), but friends and family know that I always appreciate a good pair of socks. I searched the internet high and low (JK, just two sites) and found eight pairs of socks that I wouldn’t mind finding under my Christmas tree this year.

Fall in a bowl

Could it be? Is autumn finally going to grace Southern California with its presence? According to this week’s weather report, the 80 degree weather we’ve been having is over—at least for now—and there’s even some rain in the forecast! To celebrate this momentous occasion, with the help of my brother Francisco, I prepared this butternut squash soup to kick off the fall season, and to hopefully keep me distracted from other fall foods that aren’t so good for me. Check out the easy to follow recipe below and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

The Happiest Halloween

I don’t know if the Universe was trying to tell me something or if it was just trying to be shady, but these last few weeks I’ve been bombarded with all sorts of couples costume posts and ads. Well Universe, here’s what I have to say, the joke’s on you SUCKA! Internet, meet Pecky, the love of my life, my cuddle monster, the wind beneath my wings, the truest example of unconditional love that I’ve ever encountered, and the only being that I would currently want to wear a couples costume with. Now if anyone’s wondering what we are, we’re a Jurassic Park visitor that left the park with more than just a t-shirt as a souvenir, duh. Happy Halloween, everyone!

A Night at the Museum

Last week, Francisco and I attended an event at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, and I surprised myself by how much fun I had. While I appreciate cars and their innovative designs, I’m not much of a car person. After being in way too many car accidents—none of which were my fault—being behind the wheel tends to really stress me out, so anything car related doesn’t usually pique my interest. Now, the event had very little to do with cars, so only a few of the galleries were open, but it was enough to get us hooked! We’re actually planning on going back in the near future to check out the whole place. Anyone want to join?

Back to the ‘80s

The ‘80s are back and if you’re in any way shocked by this, you probably weren’t paying enough attention. Nowadays, for fashion trends to really take off there has to be some sort of cultural catalyst to truly get things going. While the runways had already showed a shift from ‘90s grunge and minimalism, to a more decadent ‘80s influence, it wasn’t until the success of movies and shows like Call Me by Your Name, Stranger Things, and GLOW, that the decade of excess showed true signs of having a major comeback.

Campy Camp Shirts

Diana Vreeland said it best, “Too much good taste can be boring.” Camp collared shirts have become a wardrobe staple for many guys, and while they come in all different colors and prints, Hawaiian style camp shirts have been a summer favorite of mine. Once regarded as a major faux pas, Hawaiian shirts have really made a comeback! Typically bright and featuring different tropical motifs, Hawaiian shirts are a great way to liven up a look—even if they’re a bit on the campy side.
